Preparation

We will present you with a set of preparation instructions before your treatment. You may be asked to temporarily alter your medication intake to cease blood-thinning medications and supplements. You may also need to refrain from using certain skincare products, such as retinoids or chemical peels, several days before your treatment. Nicotine use and alcohol consumption should be ceased several weeks in advance, and any direct or unprotected sun exposure should be avoided. Following these instructions will help facilitate a smooth recovery and achieve the best outcomes.

Procedure

The duration of each RF microneedling treatment can vary, but they typically last between 30 and 90 minutes to perform, depending on the size of the treatment area. When you arrive at our clinic for your RF microneedling treatment, Dr. Salcedo will lead you to a private treatment room where your skin will be cleansed and sanitized. A topical anesthetic will then be applied to the treatment area to help minimize any discomfort.

Dr. Salcedo will perform your treatment using a small handheld device that features rows of small needles. The device will be maneuvered over the treatment area, creating micropunctures as it passes over the skin’s surface. As the needles puncture your skin, they also deliver the RF energy. (3) This heats the underlying layers of tissue and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.

Recovery

After your appointment, you will be able to return to your daily schedule; however, there are certain restrictions you will need to follow. You may experience mild sensitivity or redness in the treated area for several days after your appointment. These effects will subside on their own and typically do not require using any medications. Small scabs may form as you heal, but we ask that you avoid picking or scratching at them to allow them to fall off on their own. Additionally, you will need to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24-48 hours, and you should continue to avoid direct sun exposure and harsh skincare products until your skin has fully healed.
